Energy Technology

Energy technology and patents

The purpose of patents is to ensure the inventor gets the rightful monetary return for his efforts. However, through the examination process associated with patent applications, they have also been used to keep the technological status quo from advancing. Inventions that claim novel sources of energy which do not fit current theory get into serious trouble in the patent process. Of course there are exceptions, but many very bright inventors in the energy field have a sad story to relate.

Energy technology has not advanced significantly for over a hundred years. We are still using the same internal combustion engines in our cars as our grandfathers, burning gasoline and diesel fuel like Otto and Rudolf Diesel, the inventors, in the beginning of the century. Electric motors have remained substantially equal to what was used in times of Faraday and Nikola Tesla, and even nuclear power stations are based on - steam technology(!) to turn the turbines. Windmills have been known for centuries in Holland and elsewhere and maybe the Portuguese of the 17th century were even more efficient than we are now in harnessing the tidal power of the sea.

We are insisting on using up the earth's stores of fossil fuels to supply our energy needs. In addition to showing boundless greed on the part of some of our contemporaries, this is a very stupid thing to do as many of you will readily agree. We just do not know what we are causing by such a drastic exploitation of natural resources. What are we leaving to our children and their children?

This section of my page relates what I found on my search for new concepts of power generation. I hope that soon it will be outdated - overtaken by events - because that would mean that in some way we overcame the big hurdle and are heading . . . for a brighter future!

Articles in English:

The Inventor and Society
(Some time in 1989)
Patents are, at times, a block to technological progress, acting to discourage inventors who have found ways to circumvent the dearly held "natural laws" of thermodynamics and of conservation of energy. Why not use a different system that ensures protection of the inventor but does not require him to provide a theory for his invention to register it.

Understanding Water Power
(Some time in 1992)
Herbrand, an electrical engineer in Germany, relates a story from his youth about a turbine installed at the Rheinfelden power plant (on the Rhine river, not far downstream from Lake Konstanz) that was much more efficient than other equipment before and even after it. The article explores a possible solution to the riddle.

Ludwig Herbrand, Dipl.Ing.
A short explanation on how Herbrand, the German engineer referred to in the Water Power article, came to say what he did.

Dynamic Hydropower
(December 1993)
Another article on water power, analysing the principle of the use of the dynamic forces inherent in flowing water, which is an important component of the total energy obtainable from the downstream flow of water. An important recognition expressed in the article is the fact that vortices are able to give direction to normally chaotic thermal energy and thus convert it into motion, into a dynamic force, a concept pioneered by Viktor Schauberger.

Viktor Schauberger (30.6.1885 - 25.9.1958)
Some data on Viktor Schauberger, the "Water Wizard" as he was called by those who could not understand his inventions. He was a great observer of nature and he used what he knew to initiate a new kind of technology with a completely different approach - imitating natural cycles.

Comments on Richard Clem's Rotational Engine
(May 1995)
This is a comment of mine on some information you can find on Keelynet (http://www.keelynet.com/energy/clem1.htm) and (http://www.keelynet.com/energy/clem2.htm) about a man who worked with heavy construction equipment and noticed a sustained rotation of some machinery. He subsequently investigated and refined the concept and constructed what came to be known as the Clem Motor. Clem was negotiating to sell his invention. Unfortunately he died of - how sad but quite unsurprising - a heart attack being only in his fifties. The construction principle reminds us of what Schauberger was trying to do in the fourties and fifties.

Hydrogen as a fuel
(November 1996)
This is a collection of different ways to use hydrogen as a fuel, that have been reported over the years, put together in my early days on the internet, for use in a discussion group. Note the 'ASCII art' attempt to picture Archie Blue's electrolytic cell. We didn't have jpeg in those days...

A WATER FUELLED CAR
Carl Cella Hydrogen car

CONSTRUCTION PLANS (1)
CONSTRUCTION PLANS (2)
A more recent report about a car converted to run on water with on-board electrolysis. I had a link to this information before but it vanished. Fortunately, I kept a copy, so here it is again. Carl Cella says: I am the madman behind the US heavy-metal band, "Rampage", but long before my musical success I was mechanically inclined, and the possibility of running a car on fuel extracted from water intrigued me no end.

The article by Carl Cella was first published in Iron Feather journal No. 13. Iron Feather is on the web and they still have copies of the journal to sell, so if you want a hard copy, go and see them at http://www.ironfeather.com/

There are of course other sources for information on new technologies. Here are a few links:

KeelyNet
The largest collection I know of strange, outlandish, and suppressed technical information. You can find many things there, including maybe one or more of my own articles.

Blacklight Power
A revolutionary hydrogen technology with applications in energy production but also in the synthesis of new materials - developed by Dr. Randall Mills, who also owns Blacklight Power.

The Institute of New Energy
Publishers of New Energy News, a very informative periodical with abstracts and news on development of "free energy" technologies and experiments. They also publish a serious journal, the Journal of New Energy, for researchers and scientists.

Infinite Energy
Publisher of an immensely interesting magazine for those who are looking for technical information. Centered much on cold fusion, but also writes about other interesting new technologies.

Alexander Frolov's page
A most interesting site made by Alexander Frolov from St.Petersburg in Russia, mainly concentrated on the physics of time. The site also has interesting technical information, such as electricity transmission over a single wire, Tesla technologies, space related Russian antigravity projects, electrogravitation, reactionless propulsion and 400% effective plasma electrolysis for the production of hydrogen.

Alfred Evert's Fluid Technology
Evert describes how, in his view, a self-contained and self-running motor using vortex-flow of a working liquid could be constructed. He explains how a specifically configured flow can direct the normally chaotic molecular motion of the working liquid (or gas, such as air) in a way so as to facilitate and accelerate the flow itself. The paper is also available as a PDF file for download.

Schriften in deutscher Sprache

Erfinder und Gesellschaft
(1989)

Brevetti e tecnologia dell'energia
