The structure of my site and most of the material is in English (my working language), several of the articles are also in German (my mother tongue), some information is in Italian (I have lived and worked in Rome for almost thirty years now). A few of my articles have been translated into Spanish by friendly people who contacted me after reading my previous web page. For several years, I have had little time to keep up this site, much less do translations of my articles.

Now would it not be great if we all spoke the same language? Or at least there was an easy way of putting written stuff into a language that can be understood by most of us. I know there is Esperanto, but I find it - dare I say so - ugly and little intuitive. So, looking around, I found another attempt at a universal language in Interlingua, a language constructed by combining the already international words of five languages (French, English, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese), with recourse, where necessary, to Russian and German. The words were standardised and grammar was very much simplified. Interlingua is something like a modern day version of Latin that could contribute much to cross-language communication, as it is relatively easy to understand. It's almost intuitive, something that cannot be said of Esperanto, the closest competitor for the honour of becoming a universal language of intercultural communication.

This site, if translated, could well become a showcase for the use of Interlingua, but unfortunately translation of the articles would probably be a major project. Any Interlingua experts out there who would like to volunteer? Or better yet, those automatic translators ... is there one of them that will put an article from a major language into interlingua? If you are a programmer, would that not be an idea - something to work on that would make translation easier. But then ... with automatic translation becoming ever easier, perhaps the need for a unifying language has already passed.
